Eagle County Criminal History Checks
Start by naming the product. A statewide Colorado history, an Eagle County case, a same-day hearing, a Sheriff report, and a current booking are separate records. The official route depends on the question. Exact legal name, date of birth, case or report number, filing year, incident location, and the agency involved can narrow a search and reduce false matches.
Use the free docket to find hearings, the clerk for case documents, the jail viewer for custody, the arresting agency for its narrative, and CBI for fingerprint-supported statewide history. Each custodian can confirm only its own record. A result from one system should not be stretched to fill gaps in another.
- Define whether the goal is a court outcome, booking, incident narrative, warrant confirmation, or statewide self-review.
- Search the matching official channel with an exact name, birth date, case number, or useful date range.
- Compare identifiers and record dates before treating a result as the correct person or event.
- Request the underlying complaint, disposition, report, or booking details from the office that created them.
- Order a certified copy or official CBI product only when that form is actually needed.
Four Eagle County Arrest Records
One arrest can create four records. The arresting agency writes the incident report. Eagle County detention creates the booking and custody entry. Prosecutors may file a complaint or information, after which the court creates hearings, orders, disposition, and sentence. Fingerprint-supported arrest data may also reach CBI's Colorado Crime Information Center.
These records can disagree without any one being false. Initial detention allegations can change after prosecutor review. A case may be dismissed, or a disposition may not reach CBI promptly. Read the agency report for the event, the booking for custody, the court file for filed charges and outcome, and CBI for the statewide fingerprint-linked cycle.
Record flow: Agency report › Eagle County booking › Prosecutor filing › Court disposition › CBI repository update.
Official Background Checks in Colorado
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation maintains fingerprint-based Criminal History Record Information. Its Internet Criminal History Check System, or ICHC, matches a submitted name and birth date against Colorado data. A one-time user needs no account. The search costs $6 even when no match appears, and each additional matched report opened costs another $6.
Exact spelling matters. Omit suffixes, use the correct birth date, and run separate paid searches for known maiden or alias names. Social Security number is optional. ICHC excludes warrants, sealed material, most juvenile records, and arrests that lack fingerprints. A fingerprint self-review through CABS is stronger for checking a suspected name mismatch.
The CBI records overview explains the official product choices.
CBI is the state repository, but it does not hold Eagle County police narratives or court pleadings.
Eagle County ICHC Search Costs
Official costs vary by product. The online name check is quick but cannot be notarized. A staff-processed name CHRI can be notarized on request. An individual fingerprint CHRI uses an approved CABS vendor and adds the vendor capture charge. No verified current CABS storefront in Eagle County appeared in the official research, so use the live vendor locator rather than assuming a local address or hours.
| Product | Official Charge | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| ICHC name search | $6 per search or report | Colorado only; not notarized |
| Staff name CHRI | $13 | Colorado only; notarization available |
| Individual fingerprint CHRI | $16.50 plus vendor fee | CBI fingerprint record; no FBI component |
| State plus FBI statutory check | $38.50-$39.50 plus vendor fee | Authorized purpose-dependent channel |
The official ICHC entry page separates one-time, account, and sign-in routes.
For self-review, select the product that matches the depth and authentication needed.
Kinds of Eagle County Criminal Records
Eagle County criminal records span law enforcement, jail, court, corrections, and registry systems. Custody location also matters. The county viewer covers people processed at the local detention facility. Colorado DOC covers sentenced state prisoners. Federal custody uses the Bureau of Prisons. Probation is administered by the Fifth Judicial District, not Eagle County government.
A warrant is court authority, not a routine ICHC field. A registry listing is a public safety record with statutory omissions, not a complete court history. Sealed and juvenile records have separate access limits. Choose by record type and custodian.
- Arrest and booking records show the agency event and county custody intake.
- Criminal court files hold filed charges, hearings, orders, outcomes, and sentences.
- CBI history compiles fingerprint-supported Colorado arrests and reported dispositions.
- Warrant records originate with a court and are executed by law enforcement.
- Supervision and registry records follow separate Judicial, corrections, parole, and CBI channels.
Eagle County Jail Viewer Limits
The official Web Jail Viewer is the county booking-log channel because it accepts booking and release date ranges. Search by first or last name, use `%` as a wildcard, and switch status from the default IN CUSTODY to ALL when a person may have been released. Results can lead to booking date, custody state, arresting agency, original detention charges, bond, warrant, and court fields.
The viewer does not prove guilt or show the final filing decision. It warns that charges are original detention allegations and that data changes quickly. Verify a disposition through Eagle Combined Courts. For the complete arrest narrative, contact the arresting agency.
| Search Field | Type | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Last and First Name | Text, 20 characters | Accepts the `%` wildcard for spelling variants |
| Booking From/To | Date range | Finds intake during a chosen period |
| Release From/To | Date range | Finds releases during a chosen period |
| Status | Dropdown | ALL, IN CUSTODY, or OUT OF CUSTODY |
The Eagle County Sheriff Jail Viewer is the official local custody channel.
A booking image or original charge must never be treated as proof of a conviction.
Eagle County Criminal Records: What They Contain
Fields depend on the source. CBI CHRI can show identifying data, fingerprint-supported arrest date, agency, charges, and a reported court disposition and sentence. A court ROA shows case number, division, filed charges, minute events, hearings, result, sentence, fines, and requested documents. A booking record focuses on custody, preliminary charges, bond, and facility data.
| Name & Identifiers | Identity and demographic fields used to distinguish records. |
|---|---|
| Arrest / Booking Data | Date, agency, booking number, location, and custody status. |
| Charges & Statutes | Initial allegations or filed counts, depending on source. |
| Disposition | Dismissal, acquittal, conviction, or another court result. |
| Sentence | Court-ordered terms, fines, restitution, or supervision. |
| Custody / Supervision | County jail, state prison, probation, or parole context. |
Eagle County Docket and Documents
The free state docket shows hearing schedules, not full trial-court files. Search by party, case number, attorney, court, division, and date. Results can show time, estimated duration, hearing type, Eagle County location, appearance mode, and courtroom. They do not supply pleadings or a certified disposition.
The Eagle County docket search is the best first step for a likely case identifier.
After locating a case, request the ROA, complaint or information, or disposition and sentence order from the clerk.
The official court record request form accepts Eagle County selections and exact document choices.
A $5 name search may apply without a case number, while copies, certification, retrieval, and extended research have separate published fees.
Eagle County Agency Request Routing
Police narratives remain agency by agency. CBI expressly says it does not maintain another agency's arrest report. A Sheriff or Gypsum event routes to the Eagle County Sheriff. An Eagle town event routes to Eagle Police, and an Avon event routes to Avon Police. Vail, Basalt, and the Colorado State Patrol keep their own reports. County booking does not transfer ownership of the incident narrative to the jail.
The Eagle County Sheriff uses a notarized release form that asks for identity and contact details, incident date, case number, birth date, involvement, reason, signature, and notarization. The form states a $5 minimum per report and accepts mail or fax. A defendant listed in a report is directed by the Sheriff FAQ to the Fifth Judicial District Attorney for discovery. Filed complaints, dispositions, tickets, protection orders, and ROAs instead route to Eagle Combined Courts.
A focused CCJRA request should identify the date, location, agency, report number if known, parties, and desired format. Ask for the legally releasable portion. Custodians may redact victim, minor, and private identifiers or restrict active investigative material. This routing prevents delays caused by sending one broad request to an office that never held the record.
Colorado Public Access Laws
Colorado assigns access rules by record type. The CCJRA governs criminal justice records. CORA covers many administrative government records but does not replace CCJRA analysis for an arrest report. Chief Justice Directive 05-01 governs court access. Public status never removes protections for juveniles, victims, personal identifiers, sealed cases, or sensitive investigations.
Key Statutes:
C.R.S. 24-72-301 through 309 governs inspection and disclosure of criminal justice records.
C.R.S. 24-72-304 supports public inspection and individual fingerprint CHRI requests.
Chief Justice Directive 05-01 sets remote, facility, excluded, and corrected court-record rules.
C.R.S. 24-72-701 through 710 governs adult criminal record sealing.
Eagle County Warrant Verification Chain
No official public Eagle County active-warrant list was found. The jail viewer is not a warrant search, though a booked profile may show a warrant number. ICHC excludes warrants, and the law-enforcement CCIC and NCIC wanted-person systems are not public portals.
Call the Eagle County Sheriff at 970-328-8500 for sheriff information, Eagle Combined Courts at 970-328-6373 for state court records, or the relevant municipal court for a municipal bench warrant. A docket may reveal a warrant-related hearing but is not complete confirmation. Identify the issuing court, case, and bond status before taking action.
Eagle County Remote Records Access
Eagle County covers more than 1,680 square miles, and the official 2025 population estimate is 54,291. The distance between western communities, Eagle, and the El Jebel area makes remote channels more than a convenience. The county also reports that 25 percent of residents speak a language other than English at home. Clear phone, email, web, and mail routes matter when a reader cannot make a courthouse visit or needs language or disability access.
The free docket, online court request form, ICHC, and Jail Viewer all reduce travel, but each has limits. The docket offers schedules rather than documents. The court form may lead to copying, certification, retrieval, or research charges. The jail data changes quickly. ICHC can miss summons-only or nonfingerprinted events. Remote access works best as the first part of a verification chain, not the final word.
For a court record, call the Eagle clerk before traveling to the limited El Jebel counter. For a police narrative, ask the creating agency whether email, mail, fax, or counter delivery is available. Avon publishes all four methods. Eagle has separate town and police channels. Gypsum's contracted police service means a deputy-created criminal record routes to the Sheriff rather than the town's general CORA form. These county-specific divisions explain why a precise request often receives a faster and more useful response.
Restricted, Sealed & Expunged Records
Sealing is Colorado's main adult remedy. Expungement applies to narrower categories such as mistaken identity and juvenile matters. A qualifying adult request generally goes to the District, County, or Municipal Court where the record was filed. Each separate case connected to an arrest must be addressed.
Sealing limits ordinary public access but is not the same as destroying every government copy. CBI excludes sealed records from public ICHC. After a judge signs an order, CBI must receive it to update the state repository. CBI no longer charges its sealing fee, though court costs may remain. Eligibility turns on outcome, offense, later history, and statutory exclusions.
Eagle County Custody Locator Choices
Custody systems do not overlap. Use the Eagle County viewer for local detention and pretrial custody. Use the Colorado Department of Corrections locator for a person serving a state prison sentence. Use the federal Bureau of Prisons locator for federal custody. A move between systems explains why a person may vanish from one viewer and appear in another.
Supervision adds another boundary. Eagle County probation is part of the Colorado Judicial Branch's Fifth Judicial District, not a county executive office. No public probation-person lookup was found. A public court sentence or violation filing may confirm that supervision was ordered, while the probation office controls any information it may lawfully release. Parole is administered through Colorado DOC and the State Board of Parole. A county booking can reflect a suspected violation, but the later court or parole record supplies the official action.
The official Colorado inmate locator routes state-prison searches.
CDOC does not replace the Eagle County jail viewer for local custody.
The Bureau of Prisons locator covers federal custody and many releases since 1982.
There is no federal prison in Eagle County, and federal case records use PACER rather than the county clerk.
Notification is a separate service from record lookup. VINELink can provide custody-status alerts, but an alert does not replace a court disposition, sentence order, or corrections record. When a name disappears from the Eagle County viewer, check release information first, then choose the Colorado or federal locator based on the sentencing court and custody system. This sequence avoids treating a transfer as an unexplained data gap.
